After over a decade of conflict and crisis, winter in Syria is not just cold, it’s life-threatening.
For millions of Syrians, the end of the year brings a new layer of suffering: temperatures in northern and central Syria often drop below freezing, leading to hypothermia, respiratory illnesses, and increased mortality, especially among children and the elderly.
More than 7.4 million remain internally displaced within the country, and over 1.5 million people still live in substandard shelters, displacement camps, or informal settlements with limited access to heating or warm clothing.
The Harsh Reality
Imagine a mother’s impossible choice: many families cannot afford blankets, proper clothing, or heating fuel due to soaring inflation and loss of livelihoods. Without help, vulnerable households are forced to resort to negative coping mechanisms like burning unsafe materials such as scraps of car tires or plastic, or reducing their food consumption just to stay warm. They are choosing between freezing to death or risking their health from toxic smoke.
This is the grim reality for families in areas such as rural Damascus, Hama, northern Aleppo, and Idlib.
Our Solution: A Kit for Survival
We are launching the “Warmth and Dignity” campaign to enhance the resilience of 2,000 vulnerable families in these high-altitude, hard-to-reach areas.
Our primary objective is simple: To reduce winter-related health risks and ensure warmth, dignity, and safety for vulnerable Syrians during this winter season.
A single Winterization Kit costs $90 and provides essential warmth for one family:
